Project Style: The Outfit

A couple of weeks ago I had the honor of judging the Project Style Live Style Off at Short Pump Town Center. Five finalists were chosen to put together a stylish outfit using a $200 gift card to Short Pump Town Center and only had 1 hour to shop and put their outfit together. I was lucky enough to win last year so I was asked to be a judge this year!! Judging the constest was a really fun experience and I am so grateful for everything that has come from me winning last year. I will post more about the contestants outfits and my thoughts on the event later but first lets discuss my look.

I thought it would be fun to go with the same colors I wore in my winning outfit last year but in a totally different way. I eyed this dress from Need Supply Co. at an event there a few weeks ago and after dreaming about it all night decided to go back and get it. A new goal of mine is to find more pieces that I can wear year round instead of having to completely flip my closet every season and I figured this dress would be great by itself for summer and even better layered with a sweater or leather bomber for fall. This will definitely be a new staple piece in my closet.

For a pop of red I decided to go with these booties that I scooped up from B-Sides a few weeks ago that just happened to once belong to fellow RVA fashion blogger, Chris from A Ring to It!!! Chris has impeccable style so it was no surprise that these little beauties were once hers. To top the whole outfit off I added a leopard cardi, black and gold belt and the pièce de résistance, my Chanel bag.

After I put everything together and looked in the mirror (and received a little unwanted commentary from my mother....sorry ma) I realized this look may be a little over the top, especially for an event at a pretty conservative mall in Richmond, VA but then the following conversation took place:

Me: "Do I look too over the top??"
Mom: "Kind of."
Me: "But isn't that me???"
Mom: "It sure is."

Once I made a quick pit stop at my job to ask everyone's opinion (have I mentioned that I'm mildly insane??) I decided to stick with the look. The truth is I am over the top, but that's me. I've changed my look a billion times over the years but one thing I've never been is ordinary or plain. I love tutu's, bright sky high shoes, animal prints, leather, spikes & studs etc. and I will never change, no matter where I live and how many stares I get, I will always be me....a little over the top :]
